So…I just finished an hour long shift of trying to put Abbey to bed, and Jed has taken over for a bit, but I don’t think Abbey’s buying it…I get so frustrated on nights like this because normally Abbey has no issue going to sleep…and then out of the blue, with no warning, suddenly she hates her crib, screaming every time I try to put her down. I have to keep reminding myself that she needs more comfort for some reason…but after attempt after attempt to make her feel comfortable going to sleep… I need comforting, too! Oh, please let poor Abs relax already!
I guess when Maria Montessori said “fo
llow the child”, she didn’t exclude times that are inconvenient for mom and dad, right? It just gets so hard on difficult nights.
Especially if Jed has to go to the station for duty in the morning (like tonight)…because then he is more reluctant to help…trying to savour the last few hours of time at home, and wanting to go to bed early…and then that makes it THAT much harder for me to take the pressure. I don’t hear Abbey right now…maybe daddy’s doing the trick! I’d better not wish too hard, or I’ll jinx myself!
In other news, Abbey is just getting so smart these days! I mean, I guess she has always been clever, but she’s definitely been showing us these past couple days…
- Tuesday morning at work at the WIC office, I was talking to my colleague while Abbey played with some toys and we waited on a breastfeeding client we had an appointment with…We were discussing baby sign language and I was telling my co-worker what signs I had been using with Abbey and how well I thought she was doing with their meanings. I was JUST telling her that I had been signing “milk” for breastfeeding every time Abbey nursed, but that I didn’t think she was getting the meaning just yet…and then Abbey turned around from her toys when she heard the word “milk” and said “mama! mama! mic!” and made the sign. I was stunned! It’s working after all!
-Then, Abbey wow-ed me by showing me that she knew how to use tupperware…putting the lid on and off of her tupperware dish of cantaloupe like a pro!
-Even better than that, though, she now says “ball” for all sizes and kinds of spherical objects around the house, and loves (trying) to build towers with her blocks. I’ve been showing her that for a couple weeks, and she r
ecently has started to mimic my movements, though with her dexterity, she usually knocks the tower down when she brings a new block to the top.
Gotta start somewhere, right? I’m still amazed by her, though! She’s just getting so big and so smart!

Today Abbey came to work with me in the AM and then stayed home with daddy in the PM while I went back to work. It’s always a relief to get away to work without her…not that I don’t like having her with me, but I always get more phone calls done at work when she is at home with Jed, and phone calls were on the agenda today. So, while mommy was at work, Abbey and daddy went shopping for NEW TOYS!
Abbey picked out a Winnie the Pooh telephone and a Winnie the Pooh ball
And when mommy got home, we all had a fun time playing together til dinner was ready
Here’s an adorable video of Abbey chatting with Pooh and friends.

Oh, and a new development that I just LOVE … Abbey has a heart for asparagus. Yay for the green stuff! It’s delicious!
